The Coaster, New Zealand's Single Malt Whisky
Once upon a time well-regarded wine was mainly made in
Europe, now it spans the globe. Will the same thing be true of whisky? The Malt Whisky Year Book recently gave
accolades to The Coaster, a whisky that comes from TImaru, New
Zealand. The Southern Distilling Company is the world's most southern distillery and they produce Hokonui Moonshine as
well as single malt and blended whiskies. For the Coaster, a driftwood /seaweed fuel is used to scorch the malted
barley and char the oak. It has a golden amber color and a smoky, caramel flavor. [via TCM Net]
