Fire Wipes Out A Winery's Vintage
Another wine fire has happened in Northern California.
This time The
Press Democrat reports that an early morning fire on Thursday decimated a stone and wood building at Silver Oak Wine Cellars. The building was being used to age barrels from the 2004
vintage and more than $2 million worth of Napa Valley’s Silver Oak cabernet sauvignon has been destroyed. Each of
the oak barrels holds 24 cases of wine and a bottle of Silver Oak cabernet generally retails for $100. The main winery
and barrel aging room were not harmed by the fire. Silver Oak, which also owns Silver Oak Cellars Winery in Sonoma
County, is known for its cabernet sauvignon. The Oakville site produces 70,000 cases of wine each year. The main winery
and barrel aging room were not harmed by the fire and a release party scheduled for the 2001 cabernet sauvignon is
proceeding as planned. [via Wine Business]
