I would be happy to be your wine-geek buddy if you're drinking such celebrated champagnes as Pommeroy and Moet & Chandon. I agreee $$$$ don't always equal quality.  For my money I enjoy Chandon and Gloria Ferrer.  Both under $20 and a joy to drink.
