Most Expensive Champagnes
Not
including hard to find exotics, Krug, Clos du Mesnil 1995 tops the Forbes most expensive champagne list at $750 a
bottle. Only 12,624 of the bottles were produced. Coming in at second is Bollinger Blanc de Noirs Vielilles Vignes
Francaises 1997 at $400 a pop. Despite coming from the Pinot Noir grape, it is a fine golden color. Dom Pérignon
Rosé 1995 make is in the top 3 of course at $350. Aromas of strawberries and cream show Dom’s style of
delicacy and finesse.

I have a Krug non-vintage Grand Cuvee which we received for our wedding in 1987. It has been stored in a wine cooler since then and seldom moved. Can I still hold it or should I drink it and what is it worth retail? I would appreciate it if anyone knows. I also haave 11 bottles of 1970 Chateau Latour and a coouple of bottles of 1970 Lafite Rothschild purchased in 1974. I would appreciate it if someone could also give me the same info on those bottles. How long should they breathe before drinking?

Could someone provide me with the approximate value of the following wines. They have been maintained in a wine cooler and seldom moved. I would like the approx retail value and whether or not they are drinkable. Also, how long should I let them breathe when I open them.
Non-vintage Krug purchased in 1987
1970 Lafite Rothschild purchased in 1974
1970 Chateau Latour purchased in 1974
1979 Chatreau Palmer purchased in 1983
1978 MOuton Rothschild purchased in 1984
Thanks

At Cafe La Haye, just off the Sonoma plaza, I had a Kir Royale: a glass of champagne with a splash of Cream de Cassis, a berry liqueur. But don't waste good champagne.

yeah there are a few pretty good american sparkling wines out there but nothing can compare to a good french REAL champagne. And you don't have to spend alot to buy yourself a french bottle , like i read earlier Veuve Clicquot can't be beat for the price. And for those who keep saying "yeah this champagne is really good its got alot of bubbles". Its not how many bubbles its got but how small the bubbles are, in which you can see and taste a good champagne. But as long as you enjoy whatever you're drinking ; who cares really where it comes from and how much it is. Champagne is a drink that instantly brings a smile to anybody drinking it , thats all that matters

Agree with Liz; Grande Dame is my favorite also.
Too bad about Milton Friedman (read a lot of his stuff in my undergraduate days at Penn). The best I can say is, I'm not surprised. No wonder he's such a hero in the neo-con world (accent on the con).

I like the Dom Perignon Rose, we each drank a whole bottle each (two bottles, two people)...and no hangover the next day. I'd pay good money for that.

Taittinger is indeed a wonderful champagne that is very popular in Palm Springs, to Michael Kline that was asking. Call Melvyns at Ingleside Inn out there and ask where you can get the particular vintage you are seeking. Piper Sonoma cannot be beat for the lower priced end.

Meanwhile, Champagne is made solely in France as we all know. There is no such thing as American champagne but rather American sparking wine.

I have a bottle of 1976 Taittinger that I got as a wedding present and would be willing to sell. Anyone interested?
