Most Expensive Champagnes
Not
including hard to find exotics, Krug, Clos du Mesnil 1995 tops the Forbes most expensive champagne list at $750 a
bottle. Only 12,624 of the bottles were produced. Coming in at second is Bollinger Blanc de Noirs Vielilles Vignes
Francaises 1997 at $400 a pop. Despite coming from the Pinot Noir grape, it is a fine golden color. Dom Pérignon
Rosé 1995 make is in the top 3 of course at $350. Aromas of strawberries and cream show Dom’s style of
delicacy and finesse.

Without question the best champagne for a fairly reasonable price $35-$45 is Moet and Chandon, Nectar Imperial (blue label). A bit sweeter than the White Star and slightly more expensive. Well worth the price!!! And for the record the White Star is just as good as Dom P and $100 cheaper. Trust me, my review is based on hundreds of bottles over the years.. Not just a bottle here and there... Enjoy

It's not champagne, it's sparkling wine, but Chandon (Napa Valley) is the BEST for the money I have ever drank....head to head against Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin (Brut) a very educated tongue MIGHT be able to tell the difference....but I can't....enjoy!!!

Is there a restaurant listing or website that carries the Krug($750) and it's locations. I am sure that consuming this could possibly bring an epiphany to ones' life

$750 a bottle for overpriced champagne???Gimme a break!!!! I'll drink a bottle of scotch whiskey or let alone a bottle of bourbon any day!!!!!

If you like Champagne, try Taittanger Comte de Champagne Rose, 1987. All else by comparison is merely something to wash your feet with.

Piper Sonoma brut for under $15 a bottle? You must not live in PA where our State run Wine and Spirit Shppes sell it for $34. As Far as Asti Spumante, it is not Champagne, it is sparkling wine and a bit sweet to go with anything other than dessert. On the reasonable price Champagne( ok, technically, this is "sparkling wine" too) my pick is Korbel Natural. Not to dry, not too sweet, goes with everything.

Steve: Milton Friedman (note spelling) is very much alive and the past participle of "drink" is "drunk." And all the American/French consortium of sparkling wines are quite good.

Tattingers can be ordered at fine liquor stores. Actually, ABC Liquors, a chain throughout Florida is very reliable. Tattingers also produces a champagne called Compte de Compte, a high end ($150 - 200 per bottle) but very delicious bubbly. Actually, regular Tattingers brut is available at BJ's (if they have a liquor store attached) for about $28 per bottle.

Champagne is only called Champagne if it's from France..American bubbly is called sparking wine...rather a big difference, in bouquet also. For warm summer evenings one can't beat a rather moderately priced Tattinger Rose...enjoy!

After working in the bar of a 5 star restaurant, and having the ability to try several different champagnes, I have come to the conclusion that Dom is over hyped. I found it bitter and not at all pleasing to the palate. If you are trying to impress someone and feel the need to buy an expensive champagne, go with the Perrier-Jouet La Fluer, either the rose' or the blanc. Both taste excellent, all in all, much better than Dom, and much less pretentious. And a bonus...Each bottle is handpainted, and a keepsake in itself.

Dom P is a perennial classic, crisp and perfect, yet Veuve's La Grande Dame is arguably better. Reportedly it was Lord Byron's fav. It's great in our time too.
