L'Hotel in St. Germain Des Pres
If the Right Bank is too stodgy for your Valentine's Day
and you are looking for something a little more bohemian. May I suggest the lovely
L'Hotel in St. Germain. I can personally attest to this boutique hotel's many attributes. I recently stayed there
and the hotel is cosy, but filled with great luxury. The hotel had a famous occupant who. sadly, chose to expire in one
of the rooms without settling the bill. Which luxury connoisseur you ask? The gentleman who started it all, Oscar Wilde.
If you wish, you can slumber in same room in which he passed. Of course, you'll be coddled in luxury sheets, antique
furniture, and Hermes bath products. The hotel has a flamboyant design by Jacques Garcia and this extends from the small lobby to each of the guest rooms. A small pool and sauna can be reserved for private use in the vaulted basement. Service is discreet and very accommodating. The concierge can get reservations at many popular restaurants and is quite handy at finding great experiences for travelers. My personal favorite are the towels, they are so thick and fluffy. Beware though, the best creperie in Paris is just down the street and it is very tempting.

In Saint-Germain des Pres there is also the Hotel Verneuil - un hotel du charme - on the rue Verneuil. Small, quiet, two blocks (and a bridge) from the Quai Voltaire which faces across the Seine to the Louvre.
The rooms were small, the bathrooms done in marble, the service was responsive.
The price was also right. The hotel represented an overall great value and is a quitely kept institution for those seeking an alternative to large hotels.
An added bonus was that during our stay, noted actress Andie MacDowell stayed there as well.

We have stayed several times on rue St Benoit in a rather nice hotel which has
been known variously as Latitudes, Alliance and recently l'hotel Bel Amie. Superbly located near Deux Magots Lipp and the Buci Marche on se fait bien la bas!
