Northwood, Estate of the Day

Northwood is a French Normandy style manor located in the mansion-heavy enclave of Oyster Bay Cove, New York. The home was built by famed architect Charles P.H. Gilbert in 1906. This estate sits on sixty plus acres surrounded by eighty plus acres of conserved woodland. The 17,862 sq. ft. home has been renovated and updated.This house has eleven bedrooms, fifteen fireplaces, staff quarters, original bowling alley, wine cellar and master suite with his/hers baths and sitting rooms. The property also includes a Tudor style coach house, tennis house with indoor and outdoor Har-Tru courts, twelve stall stable, pool and riding trails. This estate is listed at $43 million.

Interestingly, I know the people involved with this hosue...it is a beauty and the grounds are just wonderful...being close to several golf clubs and a few yacht clubs helps too.The taxes are over 200k per year, but I guess if you spend that much for a house you don't worry about the taxes that much...

I love the style, and it's all really impressive. However for probably a lot less than 43 million dollars I can have the home recreated on substantially more significant property elsewhwere. It's amazing how real estate prices vary. I'm sure the agent and owner are anxious for the sale. A windfall for both.
