Christie's Is Selling A Washington Portrait Too
Tomorrow, Sotheby's is auctioning off two portraits of George Washington by Gilbert Stuart. Not to be left out of the fun, Christie's has announced that they will auction off this portrait of George Washington by Charles Willson Peale. The picture is part of the sale of Property from the Collection of Mrs. J. Insley Blair on January 21, 2006. The portrait is signed and dated 1779 and is one of eight known full-length Washington portraits Peale painted over a three-year period between 1779 and 1781 during the Revolutionary War. The picture is estimated to sell for $10 to $15 million.
