Sotheby's New York Public Library Auction
Back in April I wrote about the New York Public Libary's plan to deaccession some major works of art. On November 30 in New York, Sotheby's will hold an auction that includes this art. The top draws will be two portraits of Washington by Gilbert Stuart. The two paintings are estimated to sell for $10 to $15 million for the seated Washington, and $6 to $8 million for the standing portrait. The funds will be used for rare book acquisitions and boosting the NYPL endowment.
