Upside-down Christmas trees
USA Today is running an article on the latest holiday trend, one that I had absolutely no idea about:
upside-down Christmas
trees. Apparently they're popular for their smaller footprint and their higher under-tree gift capacity, and stores
like Target and Hammacher Schlemmer are making a killing on
the inverted artificial trees, which sell for between $300 and $600. The article goes on to quote a Christmas tree
expert who says that it's in fact "a pagan thing," and that "if they thought about it, they wouldn't turn it upside
down." Pagan or not, it is pretty weird, but I can see how it might be a practical for smaller spaces.

Ha, when I saw that picture (before reading the entry), I thought it was some sort of uber-expensive Christmas thong from Victoria's Secret.

Christmas trees in general are a pagan practice...it was druidic in nature...

Upside down christmas trees are not new in my family. My aunt in St.Louis, MO has had an upside down tree in her basement right next to the bar for 20 years. She keeps it up all year round and decorates it with different seasons/holidays accordingly. We thought it was wierd at first., but now see how unique it is. Also having it next to the bar for the (drinkers) at her parties proved very interesting to say the least.

Studies show that plastic artificial Christmas trees are thrown out after ten years.
There is no hassle in buying artificial Christmas trees because they are found in many shops around Christmas.
Artificial Christmas trees can be decorated with tinsel or foliage coloured tinsel.
Artificial Christmas trees are generally inexpensive, because they are made out of cheap inexpensive materials whereas many cheaper live trees are of poor quality as well as they deteriorate quickly. Shop around to find a tree that you like within your price limit!
Artificial Christmas trees don't litter the floor with pine needles like real trees do.
Artificial Christmas trees don't bother you if you don't like the smell of pine or have allergies.
If you happen to like the smell of pine you can buy a special pine spray for your artificial Christmas trees.
Artificial Christmas trees can't rot like real trees can.
Artificial Christmas trees are easy to assemble and easy to store away.
Artificial Christmas trees don't weigh much.

We have hung our christmas tree upside down from the cathedral ceiling of our living room for the past 15 years, ever since we saw an upside down christmas tree in the Museum in Milwaukee, WI for an ethnic display called "The Streets of Old Milwaukee". It was from the 'Polish Christmas' room display.

I have Polish friends who have hung their tree upside down for years, as their family has for generations. They say that it has been a Polish/Hungarian practice for many, many years.

Artificial Trees do not deplete forests and are an environmentally friendly alternative to cutting fresh trees. The scent of a real tree diminishes after a few days indoors anyway. Real trees are much more of a fire hazard too.
