Flat Creek Estate Winery

flat creek estate winery

You've heard of Super Tuscan wines but what about the Super Texan? An article in My San Antonio covers the wines being created at Flat Creek Estate in Texas.Their 2003 Super Texan picked up a double gold at the San Francisco International Wine Competition in June (a double gold means that it was a unanimous decision among the judges). The wine is produced from Sangiovese grapes grown at the vineyard near Marble Falls. Texas is a growing area for winemaking. It's been a bit of a slow starter but the amount of Texas wineries are growing quickly and Texas wines are getting recognition in the industry. Investing in a winery in Texas can be less expensive that creating a new winery in California's crowded wine regions. The article says that building a winery requires a minimum investment of $500,000. Texas has already become the fifth-largest wine-producing state in the nation with 100 wineries. Flat Creek Estate began planting in 2000 and have already produced a number of award winning wines. The 2003 Super Texan which sells for just under $20 is sold out at the winery and disappearing from retail shelves at a rapid rate but the winery has a variety of other wines including Pinot Grigio, Muscato Blanco, Primitivo and Shiraz.
