Rio Frio Caviar
Since the Caspian Sea beluga ban, we are on the quest
for other caviar options. On Monday we mentioned Montana
whitefish caviar, now from the Boston
Herald we learn of a new Spanish option. Rio Frio (Cold River) is cultivated from organically fed, farm-raised
sturgeon in the Grenada region of Spain. Because the sturgeon are cataloged as beluga by CITES, the Convention of
International Trade of Endangered Species it's a chance to get your beluga without going black market. Of course it
will cost you. The Herald says it will be for sale in the Boston area for around $250 per ounce.
