The Starlight Room's $650 cocktail
How many cocktails would you have to have before you were prepared to spend $650 on the next? The San Francisco Chronicle has an article about Jacques Bezuidenhout, "chief mixologist" at Harry Denton's Starlight Room, who has created a new range of four "million-dollar cocktails" with prices ranging from $80 to $650. For starters Bezuidenhout recommends the $80 "Heavenly Dram" which mates Macallan's 25-year-old single-malt Scotch, Garvey Pedro Ximenez Sherry 1860, lemon juice and honey-flavored syrup. "Drinking the Stars," the $650 (but available for $375 in a smaller volume) cocktail, consists of 1979 Chateau de Ravignan Armagnac with Madagascar vanilla bean, orange peel and raisin and finished by 1996 Dom Perignon Champagne. Bezuidenhout says he only sells a few million-dollar cocktails each week, mostly to "celebrities, musicians and wealthy men looking to impress their dates."
