Rocket Racing League
Think Formula One is exciting, get ready for the Rocket Racing League. The new aerospace entertainment organization
will combine racing and rocketry. Similar to auto racing, the RRL will have competitions across the U.S and the finals
will be the X Prize Cup in New Mexico. The difference is, of course, that the track is in the sky. The courses
will be around two miles long and one mile wide and 5,000 feet up and the X-racer rocket planes will fly the course in
virtual tracks a few hundred feet apart. The pilots will use GPS to help prevent collisions. Onlookers will be able to
see the planes and track the progress via GPS and fans watching at home will see a three-dimensional course with the
tracks outlined. There will be rocket plane tours and a video game based on the league is slated to launch in late
2007. What do we think here, sport of the future or recipe for disaster?
