As a man that sips his tequila, (and sips a lot of it) the excitement of a new find arriving was like waiting for Christmas when I was a boy.

Upon opening the bottle, I discovered it to have a spicy-sweet smell, rich in expression and promising to be a complex treat. My first sip, and I knew that I had found a new friend. This Reposado is as smooth as silk, yet with a medium to full body and a surprisingly strong finish that pleases and warms all the way down. This tequila has a spicy/buttery flavor and what seemed to be a carmel hint in it. The sweet and smootheness though does not hide the agave taste as do some reposados. Here, is a wonderful blend- smooth enough to be sipped pleasantly, yet with a definite agave richness. I find that many of the reposados are so smooth that they lose the agave edginess that is tequila.

Light enough to be perfect sipping by itself on the deck as the sun goes down, or to enjoy with a plate of carnitas and home made tortillas, yet strong enough to pair perfectly with a robust Maduro cigar. I have tried this delightful spirit on 5 seperate occasions now, each with different food and or cigars, and each time, I discover new nuances to it, much like watching a favorite movie over and over and discovering new things with each viewing.

As a student of Tequila for the past 4 years, and a Single Malt afficianado for 15 years, I can safely say that Cielo surely stands with the best Tequilas OR Single Malts that I have ever enjoyed. I cannot fathom any review giving this less than a stellar grade. Personally, I give this a 93, which is as high as I have ever given any Reposado, and I fully expect the A? to surpass this mark.

Tom O'Halloran
