Sports Celebrity Wines
I'm always excited when I see a new list of celebrity wine because they always manage to mention a few I hadn't heard of yet. This article in the Mercury News is a bumber crop of sports celebrity wines. We knew about Ernie Els, Arnold Palmer, Peggy Fleming, and Greg Norman but there are so many more. Football coach Dick Vermeil produces a well-respected Cabernet Sauvignon, Race car driver Mario Andretti has a thriving winery in Napa, and Jeff Gordon is coming out with his own chardonnay. As would be expected since they spent so much time near wine country, the San Francisco 49ers are well represented: Joe Montana makes a limited amount of his Montagia cabernet blend, Carmen Policy will be creating a winery in Yountsville and legendary coach Bill Walsh sells grapes to Woodside Vineyards. The one I am most curious about is the charmingly named I L Triple Overtime created by Red Wings hockey player Igor Larionov.
