Michael Jackson is donating a song??? Travolta donates use of his jet?? Penn in a boat? Oh come on people!! Enough concerts and asking us to help Katrina victims - celebrities are paid a lot of money and they should donate to these national crises. Kudos to the celebrities who have donated actual money. I'm sick of hearing people like Bon Jovi who commented that they would sing at a benefit concert when asked what they were donating. Big hairy deal!!
All other "stars", how about eliminating next month's vacation to the tropics and new dress for the awards show and DONATE money?!
Dee Mac Dec 18th 2005 6:02PM
I agree with Andrea. Most celebrities make more for one movie than most of us will ever make in an entire lifetime. I know if I had the money I wouldn't think... "hmmm, I'll have a fund raiser, and give that money... (since I can't give my own, because I might be purchasing that condo on the Vegas Strip and that's taking up my play money)". I know they work for their money, but so do we. The difference is, the average American Citizen can only live on earnings from day to day. WE can't take a 6 month break and still have enough money to take a vacation to the islands.
Celebrities we've come through with going to see your movies, watching your shows - thus, making you famous... stop entertaining us with your fund raisers, and donate some of that money you were going to use for your that next vacation home or trip to Antigua.

Well I just wanted to let you guys know that Jon Bon Jovi actually donated $1 million dollars to Oprah's Angel Network. He also says that instead of paying for a music video for his new single, he will be putting that money to go towards building houses for Habitats for Humanity. I think that we all should stop putting down on the celebrities, because a lot of them are giving so much to help out. We need to stop being so negative!!!!

To Anyone that may be able to help:
We are 3 senior citizens (myself/85, my daughter/60 and my son-in-law/65) who have watched the recent tragedies in horror. We don’t want to take your time up by dwelling on our reasons for asking the following but we’re sure you’ll want to know why before anyone even considers trying to find a family that would want our home…I will try to make this short and will answer any/all questions you may have:
If you feel the desire to stop reading at this point, PLEASE go to salebyowner.com and type in Listing ID # 7010...This ad should tell you how nice a place this is and how wonderful it could be for the right family. This 1st site gives the most information but there are two other websites given that will each show more pictures of the place:

&
http://jalynnsmom.tripod.com/ourhome4sale2
We desire absolutely NO publicity with all this…at the most perhaps the privilege to meet the family!
But they do not need to know how it all came about.

A: This couple married in 1973, knowing full well that life would never be full of luxuries
but they were/are in love and they believed they could give their children from their 1st marriages all that was truly needed. They had one child together (totaling 8) and have done a wonderful job considering the odds against 2nd marriages and all the problems that can come with so many children.
B: In 1984 Bill (my son-in-law) became disabled equaling even more financial problems yet they got through them the best they could. Bill has had somewhere between 12 & 14 back surgeries and continues to be in constant pain. This isn’t something he complains about, he’s not a talker but if one can’t see the pain in how he moves you certainly should by what’s in his eyes.
C: In 1996 my daughter had bone marrow biopsies. While waiting for the results (which turn out negative) this couple didn’t know if they’d have 30 days or 30 years left together. Their children were all grown, they were lucky enough to have health insurance and they had always dreamt of the day they could be “us”. So they decided to leave the city and go to their dream on the lake to live in their travel trailer.
D: In 1998 they took me in and as a result had to buy a mobile bigger than they ever wanted. This resulted in a $40,000 mortgage.
E: In 2002 we had a house fire - were more than blessed in that no one was hurt and our losses were minimal - but with what the insurance company did and/or didn’t do, using their contractors we have ended up with over 2,200 square feet of stick built home that we don’t need and an $80,000 mortgage that is getting more and more difficult to handle on our fixed incomes.
**********************************************************
IS THERE ANYONE THAT WOULD/COULD FIND A DESERVING FAMILY FROM ALL THE RECENT TRAGEDIES THAT WOULD WANT TO LIVE HERE? YES, WE’D NEED THE MORTGAGE PAID AND AN ADDITIONAL 60-80 THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR US TO GET WHAT WE’D NEED TO MOVE CLOSER TO THEIR CHILDREN AND MY SON-IN-LAWS DOCTORS. IF MY DAUGHTER KNEW WE COULD AFFORD IT, I know we’d be giving it all away and it breaks her heart that we want so desperately to move from here, haven‘t had any luck selling (seems like very little is selling in these times) and that there are SO MANY HOMELESS FAMILIES AFTER KATRINA & RITA.
Hoping to help in some way
And thanking you for your time,

If you had a celebrity auction for the home, anything over what is mentioned above could go to the family for relocating or even to other families.
Jim Gray Dec 18th 2005 6:02PM
What bothers me is the family making 30K per year donates $100, $200 or $500 dollars. This family is actually sacrificing something, whether it is a trip to a ballgame, new clothes, or a special night out. However, celebrities like Oprah donate 1 million of her 1 billion dollar fortune and sacrifices nothing. Bill Gates is worth 32 billion, Warren Buffett 20 billion, and someone like Jay Leno who donates a stupid autographed motorcycle are simply shameful. Serena Williams is donating $100 for every ace she serves until the end of the year, while wearing a pair of $40,000 ear rings. We need to spend less time idolizing celebrities and acknowledge just how cheap they truly are. Let's celebrate the everyday American who donates money and truly sacrifices something in exchange.
Keith Jackson Dec 18th 2005 6:02PM
K honestly now, why do we NEED to acknowledge how cheap celebs are? See this is what agravates me, this is the kind of flak that keeps entertainers feel shackeled behind bars. Dude if you couldn't go out in public because of constant harrassment, you'd invest in $10,000,000 dollar homes to! They're people to, and shouldn't be told what to do with their money. Its THEIR money, they earned it with whatever God given gifts they had, I don't care if they decide not to give a single frickin dime, I'd still remain a fan if I enjoy watching or listening to whatever it is they do. Kudos to the ones that do give, and the ones that don't... WHATEVER! Wow people STILL surprise me with there incensitivity, and what's funny about it is people that do it and don't give a dime themselves, that's just being hipocritical. So yeah, my post is to bash every-day Americans who constantly bash on Celebs because they're jealous, or too frickin lazy to get a life. As for myself, I am also an every-day American, who has a life. Don't bash people only for their deeds, bash them for who they are. Oh and DO NOT talk about Bon Jovi like that, I personally hate his music, but he literally lives for giving to charitable organizations. That to me is worth all the respect a man can get...
