Elm Court
Elm Court is one of the most amazing properties to hit the market in a while. The magnificent Vanderbilt Estate is
being offered for public sale for the first time. It is the last remaining Berkshire Cottage with original family
ownership. Here the term cottage refers to a massive estate. The estate includes a main house, butler's cottage,
gardener's cottage, greenhouse cottage, a stable and barns. It was built in 1887 and added on to until it reached 106
rooms. Every year until the 1940s, the Vanderbilt family summered there. In 1919, Elm Court hosted the "Elm
Court Talks" with diplomats from around the world, which led to the creation of the League of Nations and the Treaty of
Versailles. The home was a hotel for almost a decade and then the building was vacant for over 40 years. In
1999, renovations began. The main house has been updated with modern amenities. The estate can be used as either a
hotel or a private residence. It has a large entrance hall, library with 17 bays of bookshelves, a
heptagonal conservatory with breathtaking views, a music/drawing room adorned with thirty Corinthian pilasters and a
formal dining room that can seat 110 people. The home has 11 bedrooms with potential for more. It is listed at
$21.5 million. Take that, Updown Court.
