Richard Avedon Auction
Richard Avedon's private collection will be sold by Sotheby's
New York on October 14. The auction doesn't include the late photographer's own work but instead features
items from his carriage house home/studio. The auction is expected to fetch betwee $275,000 to $400,000. Items
from the auction will include a Victorian bed, with an estimated value of $6,000 to $8,000, and an Audubon print
of a fox, expected to sell for $7,000 to $9,000. The sale follows a previous Avedon auction which brought in
$324,000. Avedon's own works belong to the Richard Avedon Foundation, which will distribute
his works by donation or sale to museums, libraries and scholarly institutions. News of the auction made me
curious to see if Avedon's home had sold yet. I
checked back at the listing and it looks like the contract is signed.
