Hacienda Xcanatun
Newly renovated Hacienda Xcanatun is closer to a museum then a hotel. Featuring antiques, original oil paintings, and a hand-carved coral stone tub, it's no wonder the hotel was recently named 2005 AAA Four Diamond award winner by Conde Nast. Just outside the colonial city of Merida and a short flight to Cancun, the nine-acre estate showcases the beautiful and historic city and landscape. The area around the Merida is sprawling with lush agriculture and ecological delights, such as the Celestuun Flamingo Reserve where guests in flat-bottom boats navigate past dozens of species of birds. Check out a limited package of six nights for $2000.

Hacienda Xcanatun is on the top of the list of restaurants we recommend to our guests. We rent several luxury homes in Merida and Tulum. The food at the other hacienda hotels in and around Merida is very inconsistant. Xcanatun always has excellent food. We prefer the atmosphere on the terrace.

I agree with Johnīs comment about the restaurant, the service is great, and they have different chef specials every month. A well-kept secret is the wonderful Spa...even though you are not a guest at the hotel, you can make reservations to have the wonderful maya massages, and great facials with products from Spain (I forget the name) that you canīt get in the States. A first-class act!
