Chodorow = Trump?
The NY Times has an interesting profile of Jeffrey Chodorow, a man who is building a restaurant empire by partnering with some of the world's best chefs and whom they call the Trump of the restaurant world. Chodorow, perhaps most famous for massive arguments with Rocco DiSpirito during the TV show The Restaurant, has been opening and closing a variety of mega-restaurants lately. The reviews aren't always great and Chodorow does seem to be more concerned about the bottom line than the taste on the plate but the profile of Chodorow gives an interesting look into what is happening with many high-end restaurants and chefs. No longer content to own one restaurant, most chefs are opting for a string of places and Chodorow is only to happy to help. We've mentioned one of his newest restaurants, English is Italian here before and English (shown above because, frankly, he's cuter than Chodorow) is quoted in the article as saying that Chodorow is " a really smart guy who knows how to make money." The meteoric nature of the restaurant biz doesn't seem to phase Chodorow, perhaps bcause he once lost $25 million and spent four months in jail during the collapse of Braniff airlines. Compared to that what's a little Rocco?
