The Gipsy Moth IV Relaunches
The Gipsy Moth IV, the first yacht to sail a one-stop solo circumnavigation of the globe, has been relaunched. In 1966-67, Sir Francis Chichester used the the yacht to head around the world but the yacht has languished in a state of disrepair for 30 years. Last year the United Kingdom Sailing Academy bought the boat for £1 and then spent £300,000 ($546,788) bringing her back to her former glory. The yacht will take part in a couple of boat shows and festivals before setting off around the world again in September as part of the Blue Water Round the World Rally to celebrate 40th anniversary of Sir Francis's record-breaking 29,630 mile voyage.
