Karl and the Dom
Fashion Week Daily reports on the party to launch Dom Pérignon's Vintage 1998 bottle. This version of the bubbly was made all the more glamourous by the one-and-only Karl Lagerfeld who photographed the ad campaign and art book associated with the vintage. The 1998 vintage is described on the Dom Pérignon website as sensual with a nose of fresh almonds and grapefruit. The 1998 grape season was marked by both record heat and record rainfall and led to particularly well-ripened grapes. The website includes interviews with Lagerfeld pontificating about his style and making vague references to the champagne itself. The Dom itself looks lovely and is probably delish and the moody pics from the ad campaign are fun but I'm not quite certain that the slimmed and devoutly abstemious Lagerfeld makes the best spokesman for such an indulgent wine.
