The Last Collaboration of the Mondavi Brothers
After 40 years, the Mondavi brothers are uniting for one last wine. Robert and Peter Mondavi will be collaborating on a single barrel of a cabernet blend that will be offered at this year's Auction Napa Valley. The Mondavi brothers spilt after a court battle over the Krug winery. The feud ended with Robert Mondavi starting his own winery. The brothers reconciled but never made a wine together again until now. The lot, named "Ancora Una Volta," or "Once Again," will feature the wine which is made half from Peter Mondavi's Yountville vineyards and half from Robert Mondavi's Yountville vineyards. The lucky buyer gets luch with the Mondavis and a sample of the wine after the auction on June 4th, a lunch next spring, and a release dinner in August 2006 when the wine is released. There will be 60 magnums of the wine made. The younger generation of Mondavis have worked on the wine but it has the stamp of approval from the Mondavi elder statesmen. No matter how it turns out it's the chance to have a historically significant wine all to yourself.
