Sam's Club Enters the Diamond Business
We've seen the Costco diamond, now Sam's Club has their own megacarat diamond offerings. Sam's, a division of Wal-Mart is offering a 27-carat yellow diamond ring, set in platinum, for $610,000, and a 3.74-carat pink diamond pendant also set in platinum for $560,000. Both items are deeply discounted and are estimated to be worth $750,000. What's next, a Tiffany's booth at Wal-Mart?

How is it possible to get any profit from such a markdown? Is this simply a limited-time deal to get the word out or what? When I think Wal-Mart, I don't think of anything over $1,000, let alone $100,000. Crazy.
