Sportsman 2+2 Plane
It's the ultimate do-it-yourself project, David Codding became the first owner to assemble and fly his own Sportsman 2+2 plane. Four months ago he enrolled in the Customer Assembly Center (CAC) at Glasair Aviation. He spent three weeks constructing the plane with a crew of factory assistants.
He took the plane home, installed the instrument panel, upholstered the seats, and painted the airframe. The FAA signed off on the project and Codding took flight. The Sportsman 2+2 kit is designed for outdoorsy types who want to fly to their destination with a boatload of gear and it has foldable wings for easy storage. The basic Sportsman kit costs just under $35,000.
