Eclipse 500 Jet
Aero-News Network is covering the happenings at the Sun-n-Fun Fly-In this weekend. Amidst the airshows and meetings, some interesting planes have been making their debut. The Eclipse 500 Jet was the first jet in Eclipse's testing program to fly more than 1,500 miles from the Alburquerque home base (with an overnight stop in Texas). The Eclipse 500 is another entry into the Very Light Jet (VLJ) category. It flew at 25,000 feet and the crew reported and average cruise of 270 knots. Eclipse is planning a fleet of VLJs and hopes to have FAA certification next year. The more we read, the more it seems that much of the future of aviation is relying on VLJs. Aside from the safety issues, one thing that worries me is that the bathroom doesn't come standard on the Eclipse 500.
