Marcassin Wine
The LA Times Food Section has an article on Marcassin wine. Marcassin makes what has been called California's best Chardonnay. Marcassin winemaker, Helen Turley, has been referred to as the queen of cult wines and the Marcassin wines have received high ratings from Robert Parker. As this article mentions, and as I learned from reading Bacchus & Me, Marcassin's chardonnay is comparable with France's great White Burgundies (no mean feat for a California Chardonnay). Marcassin sells both a chardonnay and a pinot noir through an exclusive mailing list. According to the article, there is a waiting list to get on the mailing list, that's how prized Marcassin is. Marcassin wines can however be tracked down using wine collector websites if you are willing to pay a little more.
