Updown Court

surreyhouse

We tend to think of America as the land of big real estate but once again the Brits have schooled us.  Thanks to a tip we discovered Updown Court, a 58-acre estate in the village of Windlesham about a half hour from London.  It is priced at almost $135 million and has been attracting potential buyers from around the globe and was originally designed with opulent Middle Eastern tastes in mind but actually may end up in Russian hands.  The house was built in the 1920s and was owned in the 1970s by Egyptian prince His Highness Prince Sami Gayed.  After a fire in 1987 the house ended up in receivership.  It was then bought by Rhymer Investments who renovated it.  The 60,000 square foot house has a bowling alley, screening room, tennis, five swimming pools spread out over the estate and and a panic room in case of terrorist attacks.  It has 103 rooms, 22 of which are bedrooms and is completely computer controlled.  Just when we think we've heard of every luxury amenity under the sun, we encounter a new one.  This house has a heated marble driveway.
