Luxury Magazines On The Rise
The competition is increasing on the higher end of magazines. As the economic picture starts to brighten and luxury brands continue to grow there are magazines to match the growing interest. According to this article in Media Life, "conspicuous consumption is back in." The Robb Report, re-launched Worth magazine in 2003 and since then has expanded into additional titles including Robb Report Luxury Home. Jason Binn is planning more companion magazines to his luxury regionals like LA Confidential and Gotham. And there's the mysterious magazine with no-name for Centurion card holders. For these magazines, the challenge isn't building mega circulation but finding the right kind of readers and the right mix of advertisers. The Centurion magazine doesn't have to worry but for other magazines finding the target audience is often the key to success. The article omits one of the newest launches, Vitals, a fashion magazine aimed at the upscale consumer. We're still hoping you get most of your luxury fix with us but we love an article that refers to the ideal subscriber as "the type of consumer that if they buy scotch or Johnny Walker Blue, that's what they'll serve at their parties to 300 people." Yes, namechecking the Blue, that always gets us.
