Slate Reviews Celebrity Wines
Slate covers some of the wines that carry a celebrity label. Wines chosen include several of the Niebaum-Coppola wines, including their excellent Cabernet Franc. They also tackle celebrity golfer wines including the agreeable but instantly forgettable Greg Norman Limestone Coast Shiraz and the Ernie Els 2001 and dead celebrity wines including the Elvis Presley and Jerry Garcia wines. The wine on their list I'm most eager to sample is the Lys de Volan Condrieu 2003, a viognier co-produced by Gerard Depardieu. I'm not so much a sucker for French actors as I am for a good viognier. While a collaboration between an established vineyard and a celebrity wine lover such as Jeff Bridges is always an intriguing idea most oenophiles won't be suckered in by a celebrity attribution.

We have done a rather extensive sampling of celebrity wines at the Boat Basin over the last several years, and we agree with much of what you have to say. However, we would add that even where a celebrity offering is worth a damn, we would send the same unwavering catagorical imperative:

Wine
Sir!
