Today's Boston Globe takes us for a spin in the 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. It is a $400,000+ supercar developed by Mercedes with its Formula One racing partner, McLaren. Only 3,500 will be built, 500 per year for the next seven years. Details that set the McLaren apart include sidepipe exhaust, side gills and gullwing doors that open to 107 degrees. The interior is a Batmobile fantasy with a fliptop start button, leather seats and Bose sound system. The SLR McLaren can reach a top speed is over 207 mph and comes with a five-speed automatic transmission that can with a variety of settings. Noted car lover Jay Leno was first in line to get his hands on one.
