Wynn Las Vegas
Whenever Steve Wynn launches a new hotel it's hard not to be
curious. Although the opening of his hotel is still six months away (the opening date is set for April 28, 2005) the
buzz is already growing. Wynn Las Vegas will start accepting job applications at the start of November and up to
150,000 aspiring workers are expected to apply. Wynn seems to be betting everything on this latest project and
many people are watching to see what he will do next. After all, this is the man who restyled Las Vegas as a luxury
playground by creating the Mirage and Bellagio. Wynn's latest project has been slowly rising on the spot of the
old Desert Inn for a few years now. The resort will feature Maserati and Ferrari dealerships as well as an art gallery
showcasing Wynn's amazing collection of works by Warhol, Van Gogh and others. Wynn had originally planned to name the
resort Le Reve after his famous Picasso (which I saw in Wynn's temporary gallery a few years ago—amazing).
Wynn never does anything halfway and so this hotel is set to be over the top. The hotel which glows orange in most light will have over 2,700 rooms and an 11,000 square foot casino. An eight-story mountain with a waterfall is already in place and its placement will shield the entrance of the hotel from the Strip. A new show will debut in the $100 million dollar theater. The 2,000-seat room will be shaped like a globe and the performance will occur throughout the room, which will also have special water features. No one seems to know exactly what the show will be about but rumors say that it may be about a Himalayan boy who can fly. Wynn's hotel is the first huge hotel to hit the Strip in five years but Sheldon Adelson's Palazzo and a new Trump project are set to follow.
